For quite some time, I thought Andrew Garrett had just vanished into thin air. He’s always had solid skateboarding photography and I thought for sure he had an easy promising career in front of him. With an intense knowledge of knowing what’s he’s doing and a thirst to work hard at making things happen you can be sure to know he’s in this skate game for the long run. I mean, just check out his new photo site and this quick little transaction I had with him.

Andrew, it’s been a long time man. How’s it been going making things worth 1000 words?
Its been slow and on the back-burner for a few months now. I moved out of Philly and up to the NYC area where I didn’t know many people. I’ve been working crazy amounts of hours and just haven’t had the time or opportunity to do much shooting, but recently I’ve been trying to find the time for it more. Sometimes you’ve gotta take a break from something and come back to it a little later. you know?
What you been up the past couple years? Heard you were in Cali.
Wow, it really doesn’t take long for the rumors to start, does it? No, I didn’t move to Cali… not yet anyway. I’ve been lucky enough to take a few amazing trips out west over the years but I never ended up making the permanent move. I guess it’s still in the cards at some point in the future but not really for skate purposes.
Any new photo gear you’ve picked up in the past year or so you are psyched on?
I actually bought some diffusers last month for my flashes so I could do some more studio style stuff. I had a ton of Amazon gift cards saved up and didn’t know what else to do with ‘em, so that’s what I got.
Did you build your new website yourself?
Yeah! I’m not too savvy with building websites, so I went pretty basic with it, but i’m happy with the way it turned out. Been getting a lot of positive feedback.
What are the reasons for why you made yourself a photo site and has it helped in the past?
I dunno, I guess I just figured I’ve got all these photos I’ve shot over the years stored on my hard drive, some that have been published, some that haven’t, and I might as well put them up online for others to see too. If an opportunity comes of it, so be it, but I’m not really expecting anything.
